Q: I attended the DR. Patricia Kane's conference for the PK Protocol a few years ago. I understood at the time that somebody who is doing chelation w calcium EDTA and the lipo exchange (with lipostabil and glutathione) should not do both of these treatment regimens in the same day.

We have a number of patients who travel into town for both and would like to do them in the same day (especially w the cost of fuel). I have been unable to find out the current recommendation. Does anyone know how long should they wait between these two treatments.

Thank you,
Debbi Winder, PAC

A1: To everyone on this list inquiring about the PK protocol,

Let me say I've used the PK protocol for many years before in fact it even had that name in its most rudimentary form, PC and glutathione. Dr. Kane is correct, NEVER use anything but Wellness or Medhaus glutathione and Lipostabil for the lipids.

She is also correct in saying many people may not be doing the protocol correctly if they have not been to her course. If you have not attended her course, I encourage you not to attempt to do this with the more seriously ill patients until you have attended. I've now been twice. It has evolved considerably over time and you will serve your patients well to attend rather than assuming as we physicians so often do, that this is a simple addition of glutathione and phosphatidyl choline added to the hodge podge of chelators and nutrients we give that in general make sense to give, but vary depending on the type of patient you are dealing with.

NEVER , mix lipostabil with EDTA or DMPS. You are asking for trouble. NEVER use compounded PC. I don't care what other pharmacies may say they can do. They cannot duplicate Lipostabil. I had to learn the hard way with one case of phlebitis and others have learned this painful lesson at the expense of their patient's kidneys. Please have more respect for your patients than that.

Havnig known Dr. Kane for many years, I can tell you that she researches this protocol daily and far into the night making rational changes as the literature supports it. We reviewed well over 300 papers for the first vesion of the book and there are over 700 references in the second edition. Unless you have been reading at least 5-10 papers a day in the lipid and neurological literature for the last 10 years, you cannot assume you are even close to matching her knowledge base in the clinical application of lipids and thus potentially may make grave mistakes in the application of parts of this protocol.

Regarding results, I can say that when properly applied we have seen MS improve significantly, Parkinson's reverse, perpheraly neuropathy resolve, and autoimmune diseases improve. It is not a panacea, but it clearly will help you help many of the patients that you previously could not help. You owe it to your patients to attend this conference and then STUDY the material you are given to apply it completely and properly!

A2: Dear Dr. Gordon.
You post your meetings on YOU TUBE for all to learn! You are doing a GREAT SERVICE FOR YOUR FELLOW DOCTORS and planet inhabitants.

I want you to tell the group if you agree with patenting the "PK Protocol"?

Each time Dr. Kane responds in your FACT forum, it is another informercial for her seminar, which is where the "exclusive information "resides, supposedly...
Where is her data on the 900 ALS patients treated?
How bad are her failures?? Side effects? why Never Mentioned! Why is the L Glutathione from McGuff and Apothecure NOT OK?? etc , etc...
She treats no one, no one at all, she hires doctors to get around the need for all of the incredible hoops to jump through to qualify as an MD/DO. Now she is seeking a patent on the technique... if granted will she demand a commercial license to "use her protocol"?.
(Not too different from female gambling addicts "having my own slot machine!" ) Membrane restoration should be an open system, to the professional community, not a reason for an IPO.
Thanks

A3: Dear Doctors:
Your comments are appreciated and I agree with the concerns you have expressed!! For a Forum on Anti-aging and Chelation Therapy it seems appropriate to pass out selected LETTERS TO THE EDITOR, even when it will be controversial. This seems reasonable since most of those in mainstream medicine would view the majority of opinions appearing on FACT as controversial.

I think that if the treatment is as cheap and safe as wearing a copper bracelet the documentation required would be minimal. Furthermore, one of these members is concerned about someone "patenting" knowledge to enable treating patients. I was personally irate when over 38 years ago a doctor doing chelation therapy and making a fortune with his large practice in L.A. told me that he would share the information with me for $100k!

I was so mad that I have never charged for my teaching all about chelation therapy since that time. I have continually attempted to improve the outcome and lower the cost.

Clearly the doctors that chimed in on our last posting in April on the PK protocol were not claiming utopia, as she does.
– I thought that tended to warn those who read her infomercials

– I am not opposed to getting into more of what you have both stated here; this is a forum and thus we need diversity of opinion.

Sincerely,

Garry F. Gordon MD,DO,MD(H)
